KY Campers Take Part in Spruce-Up Weekend

KY Campers Take Part in Spruce-Up Weekend

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park campground at Mammoth Cave, Kentucky held a volunteer spruce-up day on March 27 and had over 50 camper families and several Scout groups join in and contribute. This fantastic group of spring campers brought lots of energy and worked side by side with campground staff. Campers were rewarded for helping with FREE camping on Friday and Saturday night and lunch on Saturday.

One group spread 40,000 pounds of rubber mulch – made from over 2,600 recycled tires – under the new playground equipment. Another group helped place 53 tons of stone on a hillside beside some of the campground cabins. Others did painting, placed landscape timbers, tore down some old fences for replacement, picked up trash and worked on the mini-golf course.

This was the sixth year a Spruce-Up Weekend has been held at Mammoth Cave Jellystone Park to help start the season, and reports from management indicate this was the most successful so far, “The work done by these campers was absolutely outstanding!” The campers enjoyed it too. Commented one camper, “I haven’t had this much fun on a Saturday in a long time.”
