Milton, PA Jellystone Park™ Campground Team Earns 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year

Milton PA

Jellystone Park™ Campground at Shangri-La in Milton, Pennsylvania has been recognized with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Jellystone Park franchise system. The award recognizes Campgrounds that show a strong growth in business over the prior year.

Nestled in central Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna Valley at the foot of the Montour Ridge, Jellystone Park at Shangri-La is well-known for its family-friendly environment and its Halloween events, especially the popular Trail of Terror. Guests will find accommodations ranging from rustic tent sites to full-hookup RV pads and a full selection of Bunk, Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Lakefront cabins. Onsite amenities include a sparkling heated pool with a wading pool and cafe; a playground with a castle, Victorian playhouse, ship and train; Frisbee golf; a fully-stocked catch-and-release lake; hiking and nature trails; basketball; volleyball and more.

“We are thrilled to win this award and believe it’s testimony from all our loyal customers that we are giving them what they want in their vacation experience. We have had great continuity in our staff, who are always striving to improve our guests camping experience each year,” said campground owner Bruce Bryant. “We’ve also been very fortunate in a less-than-stellar economy to increase our guests’ length of stays and the frequency of their visits, which keeps our revenue growing.”

Themed weekends will provide additional family fun beginning April 8-10, with a different theme every weekend all summer long. Kids and adults alike will enjoy events like Chocolate Frenzy Weekend (May 20-22); Mardi Gras Weekend (June 3-5); Wild West Weekend (July 29-31); and Murder Mystery Weekend (August 12-14.)

The Jellystone Park Campground at Shangri-La is located at 670 Hidden Paradise Road in Milton and is open year-round. Find more information and reservations visit jellystoneshangri-la.com or call 888.386.9644.

Memphis Jellystone Park™ Wins 2011 Facility of the Year Award

The Russell family, owners of the Jellystone Park™ Campground in Horn Lake, Mississippi , just south of Memphis, have been recognized with the Facility of the Year Award by the Jellystone Park franchise system. The award is given to the Campground that has added new amenities and facilities while also showing sustained improvements on current amenities.

Located just five miles south of Elvis’ hometown, the campground is the perfect home base for exploring attractions like Graceland, the Beale Street Music Festival, riverboat cruises on the mighty Mississippi (including the legendary Delta Queen), and the lively casinos that dot the region. The park’s 20.5 picturesque, beautifully landscaped acres include 136 RV campsites and 12 rustic cabins; 28 more full-hookup concrete sites and six new three-bedroom luxury cabins will open in April. The entire family will love the swimming pool, playground, recreation room with video games, and live entertainment at the pavilion. The 2011 camping season will introduce a new Jumping Pillow, a huge inflated pillow where kids can bounce until they wear themselves out (and adults can let their inner kid loose without blowing a knee) and two inflatable waterslides.

Planned activities and themed weekends make camping more fun than ever all season long. This year’s weekend lineup kicks off April 23-24 with Easter Weekend, with its egg-cellent egg hunt and decorating contest. A sample of upcoming weekend festivities include the Hawaiian-themed Luau with Yogi Bear Weekend (June 10-12); Medieval Weekend, when you can make your own magic potion, wizard’s wand or fairy dust (July 29-31); and Chocolate Weekend (August 19-21).

”We are tickled pink and so proud to have received the Facility of the Year Award,” said Keith Russell, the park’s owner. “We are so happy to provide a clean, beautiful, family-friendly camping experience where everyone can relax and make great memories.”

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Memphis is open year-round and is located at 1400 Audubon Point Drive in Horn Lake, MS. For reservations, call 888-305-GoRV (4678) or visit memphisjellystone.com.

Celebrate Easter Traditions At Jellystone Park™

Ahh…Spring is finally here after a long and snowy winter. And the first big holiday weekend of the camping season is right around the corner. Here’s a sampling of the Easter activities at several Jellystone Park™ Campgrounds. Check the calendar at your favorite locations to see what they have planned.

Head to Memphis  for a weekend of traditional Easter activities like an egg hunt and egg dyeing. There will also be a spoon race (can you keep your egg on the spoon?!) and a coloring contest.

Jellystone Park in Fremont, Indiana is hosting an Easter Egg-stravaganza complete with an egg hunt and egg decorating. Kids will love to see live baby chicks and bunnies, and the whole family can fill up on free pancakes! And don’t forget your swimsuit because the indoor pool will be open.

For a fun twist, the Jellystone Park in Hagerstown, Maryland is hosting an egg hunt for adults only. The eggs contain valuable prizes like store coupons and game room tickets. The hunt takes place once the sun goes down, which makes it extra competitive!

In the south, Canyon Lake, Texas has a special flashlight hunt for older kids, plus crafts and pancakes. While you’re there, check out the progress on the new swimming pool (set to open this summer) and take a warm dip in the heated indoor pool.

Experience a German Easter Celebration in Frankenmuth, MI , dubbed “Michigan’s Little Bavaria.” Once a year in the area of Franconia Germany one will find many wells, trees, buildings and fountains richly decorated with colored Easter eggs, pine-branch garland and spring flowers. This tradition of decorating Easter Fountains in Germany is over 200 years old and many cities and villages in Franconia Germany still follow this tradition. Since Franconia is the area from which Frankenmuth’s early settlers originated, they mirror the Osterbrunnen tradition.

So clean out the RV, dust off your tent or book a cabin and head to Jellystone Park to celebrate Easter and welcome the warm weather!

Spring Into The 2001 Camping Season

Heard the birds singing again at last? Gotten a peek of a daffodil trying to poke its way through the soil? Enjoyed a brief tease of things soon to come on a warm March day? Spring is just about here, and with it, the 2011 camping season for all our Jellystone Park™ Campgrounds. While many of you have continued to camp with our year-round parks, we are so excited to welcome everyone back to our seasonal parks as well – and we have more Yogi Bear-style fun than ever in store for this season. Let’s take a look at how one park in each region is celebrating spring and its biggest holiday, Easter.

For a friendly dose of Southern hospitality, visit Yogi on the Lake in Pelahatchie, Mississippi , where you’ll find excellent fishing on the 95-acre Pelahatchie Lake plus miniature golf, Yogi Bear Water Town- a splash playground, a sandy beach with volleyball, and tennis courts – as well as fully-equipped campsites and lakefront cabins. Celebrate Everything Spring Weekend April 15-17, when kids can plant their own flower pot in the park’s activity center, and the whole family will enjoy nature hikes, dodge ball and crafts. And Easter Weekend (April 22-24) just might bring a visit from the Easter Bunny himself – he’ll want to check out the Easter egg coloring and hunt that will be going on.

In the wild, wild West, you’ll love the spectacular views of Jellystone Park in Larkspur, Colorado , located on a bluff in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Celebrate Earth Weekend (April 22-24) offers a wonderful opportunity to get back into the outdoors with plenty of hiking, biking, Frisbee golf, and pedal carts. Stay outside for geocaching, the fossil dig sandbox, playground, archery range and fishing pond. And since Larkspur Jellystone Park welcomes furry friends with their Bark Park, Rover doesn’t have to miss all the fun.

On the East Coast, check out Jellystone Park Campground at Tall Pines in Elmer, NJ , situated on 113 beautiful woodland acres in rural southwestern New Jersey. From a full size pool and outdoor movie theater, to basketball and volleyball courts, a playground, and a private lake fully stocked with fish, Yogi Bear provides plenty of fun things to keep his guests busy. The grounds also contain miles of walking and biking trails, a picnic pavilion, wifi access, and a lending library. Kids will love pretending to be pirates for Treasure Hunt Weekend (April 15-17), as they search for hidden booty to fill their treasure chests (we’re talking hundreds of dollars here- AARGH, me mateys!) Easter weekend is sure to be egg-cellent with the annual Egg Extravaganza.

In the friendly Midwest, Jellystone Park in Millbrook, IL (near Chicago) is ready to welcome guests in April with reduced rates all month. It’s Wake Up the Bears Weekend April 16-18 (buy one night, get the second free) so come ready to make lots of noise to rouse Yogi Bear, Boo Boo™ and Cindy Bear™ from hibernation. You’ll also love the family movie, Glitz & Glow Hayride, and camper talent show.

Geocaching: A Modern Day Treasure Hunting Experience

Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is an activity that combines technology and the great outdoors. It is a modern day treasure hunting experience; a game of hide and seek. Anyone can become a geocacher at anytime.

There are two types of geocachers: hiders and seekers. The “hider” hides a cache and announces its GPS coordinates on a web site such as geocaching.com. “Seekers” then look up the caches that are located near an area they want to search. The coordinates of the cache are typed into a handhelp GPS unit, then the seeker follows it to the site, typically within 6-20 feet of the cache. They are on their own at that point and must follow their intuition, rely on previous experience, or turn to clues provided by the hider or previous seekers to find the exact location of the cache.

The cache is a water tight container that usually consists of a log book or sheet and small trinkets. Once the cache is found, the seeker then signs the book, takes a trinket, replaces the trinket with one of their own, and hides the cache in the same spot so the next seeker may have the pleasure of the find. Keep in mind caches should always be family friendly since many families use geocaching as an opportunity for family bonding and exercise.

Check out this video from geocaching.com that explains the basics. And you can read more information about geocaching events at Jellystone Park campgrounds on this blog.
