Wisconsin Camping – Local Attractions Add Fun to Your Family Camping Trip

If you and your family are visiting any of our campgrounds in Wisconsin , you will have enough family-friendly amenities to last you an entire summer. But if you get the urge to explore some of the attractions outside of our fun-filled parks, there is plenty to see and do in Wisconsin.

Local Culture & Museums in Wisconsin

National Railroad Museum

Whether your family is visiting Wisconsin for the first time, or if your family has lived in the state for generations, you will want to take a trip to the National Railroad Museum. At this one-of-a- kind museum, you and your family can learn about the rich history of the railroads that spurred the growth and development of Wisconsin as well as much of the Midwest. Just miles from our family campground in Sturgeon Bay, WI ; the railroad museum will take your family down a historic and exciting track.

Milwaukee County Zoo

The Milwaukee County Zoo is another family attraction that is located nearby our Caledonia, Wisconsin campgrounds. At the zoo, your family will be able to see rare animals and sea life, all located just a short drive from our family campgrounds. Take a walk through the reptile house and get a close up look at the rare Chinese alligator as well as some of the Cuban Boa, one of the largest snakes in the world. The birdhouse contains a variety of species including penguins, spoonbills and kingfishers. The pride of the zoo is the “North America” exhibit which contains Kodiak bears, grey wolves, and California harbor seals. An exciting family outing awaits you, when you stay at our Caledonia campground in Wisconsin.

Madison Children’s Museum

A visit to our campgrounds in either the Wisconsin Dells , or Fort Atkinson would not be complete if you did not take the short drive to Madison to visit the Madison Children’s Museum. The museum is full of kid-friendly attractions that allow your children a close-up and hands-on look at the world. In the spring of 2010, the museum was completely refurbished, offering brand new attractions and amenities. The center will reopen in August of 2010, just in time to finish out the summer. If you are camping at any of our southern Wisconsin campgrounds, you will want to make sure that you visit the Madison Children’s Museum.

Warrens Cranberry Festival

Every fall, the world’s largest cranberry festival takes place in Warrens Wisconsin, down the street from our campground in Warrens. Every year, millions of cranberries are harvested and put to use in pies, artwork, souvenirs and so much more. There are contests for the best “Cranberry Recipe”, a “Cranberry Royalty Pageant” and weekend harvest tours. All proceeds directly benefit the community surrounding Warrens, making this not only the largest cranberry festival in the world, but the largest beneficiary in the Warrens community. Bring the family down to participate in all of the weekend activities, while helping benefit the local community.

Oshkosh Military Veterans Museum

Located just a short drive away from our family campground in Fremont, WI is the Oshkosh Military Veterans Museum. As your family walks up and down its halls, you will be able to see military uniforms dating back as far as the war of 1812 through present day. You will also be able to discover the stories of those brave men and women who have served our country. The museum runs entirely off of donations and volunteer work so be sure to bring the family by and contribute to the preservation of our nation’s rich history.
