Fall is a great time to camp. The temperature is just right and the changing leaves create a beautiful setting for a family vacation. And Halloween is especially festive at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park campgrounds. From campsite decorating to costume contests, kids of all ages love to participate in our activities. Jellystone Park campgrounds usually offer a mix of both scary and not-so-scary activities, which are designed to appeal to young children as well as teens and adults. But while most Halloween themed activities take place in September and October, some parks in Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania are offering them as early as August. A handful also celebrate Halloween during the first weekend of November.

Here is a sampling of weekend activities and special events taking place in the coming weeks at Jellystone Park family campgrounds across the country:

Alabama

– Jellystone Park Gulf Shores in Elberta:  This park will have a magic pumpkin patch and pumpkin decorating on the non-scary Halloween themed weekend of Oct. 11 – 13, while scarier activities are planned for Oct. 18 – 20 and Oct. 25 – 27. Colorado

– Jellystone Park in Estes Park:  This park will have Halloween themed activities every weekend in September, including campsite decorating, trick or treating, a haunted hike and Saturday night dances. www.jellystoneofestes.com

– Jellystone Park of Larkspur:  This park will feature a pet mania weekend Sept. 20 – 22 with awards for best pet trick and best dressed pet and a pet parade. Five Halloween themed weekends are scheduled beginning the last weekend of September. Activities include costume contests, a magic pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, campsite decorating, a scary haunted trail and a not so scary hayride.   www.jellystonelarkspur.com

Delaware

–Jellystone Park Delaware Beaches in Milford: This park has Halloween-themed weekends every weekend in October with costume and campsite decorating contests and trick-or-treating.   www.delawarejellystone.com

Florida

– Jellystone Park in Madison: This park has Halloween themed activities included a haunted trail and a haunted house scheduled for the last two weekends of October. www.jellystonefla.com

Georgia

– Jellystone Park in Bremen: Halloween themed activities are planned for every Saturday and Sunday in October, including a pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, bouncy houses, reptile shows, costume and campsite decorating contests. www.georgiajellystone.com

Illinois

– Jellystone Park in Amboy: This park has a fall pumpkin festival, caramel apples and cider and scarecrow making on the weekend of Sept. 21-23. A haunted barn, pumpkin carving and best costume and campsite contests are slated for Sept. 28-30 while Halloween activities planned for the weekend of Oct. 5-8 include a dance party. – Jellystone Park in Pittsfield: This park has Halloween themed events planned for Oct. 5 – 6 and Oct. 12 – 13, including a haunted house, a haunted hike and graveyard, a witches house bonfire and costume contests for everyone, including pets. www.jellystonepinelakes.com

Indiana

– Jellystone Park in Bloomington: This park will have a fall festival Sept. 20 – 22 with caramel apple and scarecrow making activities. Guests can also sip hot apple cider on a nighttime hayride. An Octo-bear-fest is scheduled for Oct. 4 – 6 with a corn husking race, a pumpkin seed toss and German crafts and food. The last three weekends of October are Halloween themed weekends with campsite and costume contests and other activities. www.lakemonroejellystone.com

– Jellystone Park in Fremont: This park’s Halloween themed activities include a “Little Tykes Pumpkin Patch” and costume parade on Sept. 20 – 22 while campsite decorating contest and bonfire with scary stories is slated for Sept. 27 – 29. A costume parade will take place the weekend of Oct. 4 – 6 while a Monster Ball and campsite decorating competition will take place Oct. 11 – 13. www.jellystonesbest.com

– Jellystone Park in Knightstown: This park has scheduled non-scary Halloween themed weekends on Sept. 27 – 29 and Oct. 4 – 6 with pumpkin decorating and a costume parade. Scarier weekends are planned for Oct. 11 – 13 and Oct. 18 – 20, the latter of which features a visit by the Headless Horseman. The weekend of Oct. 25 – 27 is the scariest and features a haunted wagon ride, a costume dance and campsite decorating contest. www.jellystoneindy.com

– Jellystone Park in Pierceton: This park will have games from around the world Sept. 6 – 8 including games from Germany, Mexico and the U.S. Play Fazzoletto, Schokoladenessen, break piñatas and enjoy ethnic food. The weekend of Sept. 13 – 15 guests will celebrate Octoberfest and Halloween with campsite decorating, a pumpkin patch and pumpkin decorating, a haunted trail, a bon fire and weenie roast at the beach, as well as caramel apple dipping. www.piercetonjellystone.com

– Jellystone Park in Plymouth: This park has Halloween themed activities scheduled for Sept. 13 – 15, including Halloween crafts and games, costume and campsite decorating contests, and a candy drop by a plane that passes over the park. www.plymouthjellystone.com

Missouri

– Jellystone Park in Eureka: This park has three consecutive Halloween themed weekends planned for the last three weekends of September. Activities include a scavenger hunt, s’mores and ghost stories, trick or treating with Yogi, and Monster Mash Karaoke. www.eurekajellystone.com

– Jellystone Park in Forsyth/Branson: This park has not so scary Halloween themed weekends planned for Oct. 11 – 12 and Oct. 18 – 20, each of which will feature a magic pumpkin patch. www.jellystonebranson.com

New Hampshire

– Jellystone Park in Ashland: This park has scheduled fall fair weekends for the last three weekends of September and first weekend of October with fall arts and crafts, a bouncy house and slides, caramel apples and opportunities to decorate pumpkins. The weekend of Oct. 11 – 14 will be a haunted weekend with Halloween tattoos, costume and campsite decorating contests, a Halloween parade and a fireworks show. New Jersey

– Jellystone Park in North Java: This park’s fall activities include a “Redneck Weekend” Sept. 13 – 15 with seed spitting, belching and redneck horseshoes contests as well as a Mr. and Mrs. Jellystone Park Redneck contest. Pennsylvania

– Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest in Harrisville: This park has five consecutive Halloween themed weekends between Sept. 20 – 22 and Oct. 18 -20. Pumpkin patch and face painting activities are scheduled for the first weekend while the following weekends include costume and campsite decorating contests and a haunted pavilion. South Carolina

–Jellystone Park in Swansea: This park has five Halloween themed weekends beginning the first weekend of October. The first two weekends are no scare weekends, while the last three are scary. South Dakota

–Jellystone Park in Sioux Falls: In September, this park will re-open its popular seven acre corn maze, which complements the park’s other fall activities.  Sept. 18-20 will be a “Witching Weekend” and will feature Halloween themed crafts and guests will be invited to wear costumes and decorate their campsites. On October 6, the park will have a “Mutts in the Maze” event during which time people will be allowed to go through the corn maze with their dogs, with proceeds from the event being donated to the local humane society.
