First-Time Camper Wins Redbook Prize
The April issue of Redbook magazine featured a very special prize for one lucky reader's family: a four-day, three-night stay in a deluxe cabin at any Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort, as well as car rental, gas card and a merchandise voucher for Yogi souvenirs. The winner was first-time camper Tina P., who visited our Waller, TX campground for a long weekend. Here's what she had to say:
On behalf of myself and my family, we would like to share with you the wonderful experience we had visiting the Jellystone park in Waller, Texas. This was the perfect weekend to visit as it was "We love kids" weekend. We enjoyed the petting zoo; the splashpark; the outdoor theater; which my husband "hosted" one evening; and meeting all the wonderful people there. Our cabin offered the perfect amenities for us as well.
This was our first time camping and Jellystone Park was the perfect place to do that. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided we will definitely come back and make this an annual visit, and hopefully, we will bring more family and friends along for the fun! Thank you for a wonderful vacation.
Check out these photos of Tina, her husband and their son, having a ball at the Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Waller!

April Showers Bring May Flowers
April is the perfect month to plant many summer blooms and plants, and the mild temperatures make gardening especially pleasant in most parts of the country. Here are a few tips to keep your thumb just the right shade of green:
-
In many parts of the country, now's the time to plant bright, colorful annuals and perennials. Planting a little early allows you to buy less expensive starter blooms rather than the larger varieties needed later in the season.
-
Is it time for you to divide the perennials you already have? Spring is the time to tackle those that bloom in the summer or fall.
-
Vegetables for fall salads will thrive if you get the seeds in the ground now. Think about lettuce, swiss chard, onions, parsnips and peas, but hold off on veggies that love warm weather, like tomatoes.
-
April can be a great time to fertilize your established trees and shrubs, and to plant new ones.
-
Check with your local county extension office or your favorite gardening center to get tips specific to your area.
-
Friday, April 25 is Arbor Day. Make our world a little greener by planting a tree, or pledging support to an environmental organization

Get Out the Grill!
It's time to fire up the grill once again. Whether you're barbecuing alongside your RV at your favorite Jellystone Park, or in your own backyard, here's a great recipe for burgers with just a hint of summer.
Ranch Burgers
-
1 ¾ lbs. lean ground beef
-
¾ cup prepared Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing
-
¾ cup dry bread crumbs
-
¼ cup minced onions
-
1 tsp. salt
-
¼ tsp. black pepper
-
Sesame seed buns
-
Lettuce, tomato slices and red onion slices (optional)
-
Additional Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing
In large bowl, combine beef, salad dressing, bread crumbs, onions, salt and pepper. Shape into 6 patties. Grill over medium hot coals for 4-5 minutes (2 to 2 ½ minutes per side) for medium doneness. Place on sesame seed buns with lettuce, tomato and red onion slices, as desired. Serve with a generous amount of additional salad dressing.
Thanks to Jellystone Park camper Kim Schneider for her burger expertise! | |
