RECTIONAL PROGRAMING - Information
- MORE EVENTS
SOME ADDED EVENTS
Here are some more events or activities, which you might consider
trying in your recreation program. They are not, in themselves,
a "special event", yet they could well be a part of a
Special Event Weekend, or just an activity for a "fun day"
at the park!
Place two to three canvasses for painting (or poster board will
do) on the lawn or in the recreation building. Have paints and brushes
available. Arrange six people to a team. You may have as many teams
as you like. Each team member will have 20 to 25 seconds to work
at the canvas. Then the next team member takes over. Keep it moving!!
After a total of 15 minutes per team, STOP!! The "masterpiece"
is complete! At the end of the day, or the end of the weekend, you
might auction them off!
Supplies needed: Paint, brushes, canvasses or poster board. (Easels
are nice if you have them or can borrow them.)
Prepare promotion well in advance to notify campers and public.
Establish a set-up fee for the public to participate, and let your
Camper set-up free with a two-day registration. All products for
sale should be handcrafted. Be prepared for extra store sales, and
have available at the show area soft drinks, coffee, and snacks.
Plan your promotion close to your Ranger Station, so you can benefit
also with the extra shoppers coming into your store and game area.
Preparation: Advertise locally and in-park. Have a beginning and
closing time set.
"Clean out your closet, garage, campers and make it pay!"
Promote in-park and locally well in advance. A charge should be
made for anyone not registered at the resort. Everyone furnishes
their own tables, however, you may provide picnic tables for a fee.
Establish a set-up time and closing time. The public should not
be charged to come into the park, so keep the promotion in an area
that is not exposed to your everyday activity. Suggest at the end
of the day any left over items to be donated to Goodwill or Salvation
Preparation: Same as Craft Sale.
Women and men alike prepare their "best" chili to be judged
at a given time. Pick a panel of "tasters" and plan a
program at the time of judging -- present prizes and/or trophy.
Immediately following judging; staff serves chili. Resort can provide
drink, with each family bringing a dessert.
You might also consider having a "Miss Chili Pepper" or
"Mr. Chili Pepper" contest, open to all ages. The contestants
could be in costume, with a 30-60 second presentation on "Why
I Want To Be Miss (or Mr.) Chili Pepper." This can get to be
