LSI was originally formed as Jellystone Campgrounds Ltd. in March
1969 for the purpose of developing a chain of high-quality franchised
resort-type campgrounds utilizing Yogi Bear™ and related characters
as key advertising and theming elements. The License rights for
use of this world famous animated character group were obtained
from Hanna-Barbera through its licensing agent, Screen Gems, Inc.
By the end of 1971 there were ten franchised Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resorts
in operation. Growth has been steady throughout the company's history,
and today there are over 70 locations in 24 states and Canada.
In 1985, LSI was purchased by a Pennsylvania company, Ahnert Enterprises.
Then in July of 1989, Great American Broadcasting Company, which
owned Hanna-Barbera Productions at that time, acquired LSI and
moved the operation to Cincinnati, Ohio. A new management team
has revitalized, reorganized, and improved the franchise operations
to the point where LSI now believes that the system is poised for
significant growth.
Today, the Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort system is owned
by Park River Corporation, a privately-held Cincinnati company,
and is firmly established as a leader in the camping industry.
While LSI still seeks newly constructed parks, the franchise sales
emphasis is to convert existing privately-owned campgrounds to
the Jellystone System. Now, for a relatively modest investment,
owners of existing, qualified campgrounds can purchase a "conversion
package" including Yogi Bear theming elements and become a
member of the Jellystone Park network of quality Camp-Resorts.
