Canyon Lake Jellystone Park™ Campground Team Earns Entrepreneur of the Year

Larry and Kim Jones, owners of Jellystone Park™ Campground Hill Country in Canyon Lake, Texas, have been recognized with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Jellystone Park franchise system. The award recognizes Campgrounds that show a strong growth in business over the prior year

Located on 27 acres in the beautiful rolling hills of Texas Hill Country, the campground is just 13 miles from New Braunfels and less than an hour from Austin and Houston. Guests will love the brand-new sparkling pool and kid-friendly splash park that opened for the 2011 camping season, as well as the indoor pool, Jumping Pillow, meeting rooms, Laser Tag, disc golf, Gem Mine, sand volleyball court, half court basketball, horseshoe pits, playground and Jellystone Hall, which is perfect for family reunions or church retreats. The park also allows day visitors to its pool and splash park, and rents its meeting rooms and Jellystone Hall to the public, making it a great day destination for locals.

The Joneses, whose children also work at the campground, were chosen for their commitment to consistent improvement to their growing park. In addition to the new pool, splash park and disc golf, they have recently added a jumping pillow and camping cabins.

“We’ve been very blessed with strong business growth thanks to our wonderful staff and our amazing customers,” said Larry Jones. “Our team, the unique Texas economy and the great regional attractions that surround our park have helped us build a strong repeat customer and referral base.”

Themed weekends provide additional family fun, with a different theme every weekend all summer long. Kids and adults alike will enjoy events like Hero’s Weekend (May 20-22), when all law enforcement, doctors, nurses, EMTs, firefighters and military personnel camp two nights for the price of one; Western Roundup Weekend (June 24-26), when guests can don their cowboy duds and Under the Sea Weekend (August 12-14), including sand castles, blowing bubbles, crafts, crab races, and of course, lots of water activities.

The Jellystone Park Campground Hill Country is located at 12915 FM 306 in Canyon Lake and is open year-round. Find more information and reservations visit jellystonehillcountry.com or call 877.964.3731.

Memphis Jellystone Park™ Wins 2011 Facility of the Year Award

The Russell family, owners of the Jellystone Park™ Campground in Horn Lake, Mississippi , just south of Memphis, have been recognized with the Facility of the Year Award by the Jellystone Park franchise system. The award is given to the Campground that has added new amenities and facilities while also showing sustained improvements on current amenities.

Located just five miles south of Elvis’ hometown, the campground is the perfect home base for exploring attractions like Graceland, the Beale Street Music Festival, riverboat cruises on the mighty Mississippi (including the legendary Delta Queen), and the lively casinos that dot the region. The park’s 20.5 picturesque, beautifully landscaped acres include 136 RV campsites and 12 rustic cabins; 28 more full-hookup concrete sites and six new three-bedroom luxury cabins will open in April. The entire family will love the swimming pool, playground, recreation room with video games, and live entertainment at the pavilion. The 2011 camping season will introduce a new Jumping Pillow, a huge inflated pillow where kids can bounce until they wear themselves out (and adults can let their inner kid loose without blowing a knee) and two inflatable waterslides.

Planned activities and themed weekends make camping more fun than ever all season long. This year’s weekend lineup kicks off April 23-24 with Easter Weekend, with its egg-cellent egg hunt and decorating contest. A sample of upcoming weekend festivities include the Hawaiian-themed Luau with Yogi Bear Weekend (June 10-12); Medieval Weekend, when you can make your own magic potion, wizard’s wand or fairy dust (July 29-31); and Chocolate Weekend (August 19-21).

“We are tickled pink and so proud to have received the Facility of the Year Award,” said Keith Russell, the park’s owner. “We are so happy to provide a clean, beautiful, family-friendly camping experience where everyone can relax and make great memories.”

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Memphis is open year-round and is located at 1400 Audubon Point Drive in Horn Lake, MS. For reservations, call 888-305-GoRV (4678) or visit memphisjellystone.com.

Celebrate Easter Traditions At Jellystone Park™

Ahh…Spring is finally here after a long and snowy winter. And the first big holiday weekend of the camping season is right around the corner. Here’s a sampling of the Easter activities at several Jellystone Park™ Campgrounds. Check the calendar at your favorite locations to see what they have planned.

Head to Memphis  for a weekend of traditional Easter activities like an egg hunt and egg dyeing. There will also be a spoon race (can you keep your egg on the spoon?!) and a coloring contest.

Jellystone Park in Fremont, Indiana is hosting an Easter Egg-stravaganza complete with an egg hunt and egg decorating. Kids will love to see live baby chicks and bunnies, and the whole family can fill up on free pancakes! And don’t forget your swimsuit because the indoor pool will be open.

For a fun twist, the Jellystone Park in Hagerstown, Maryland is hosting an egg hunt for adults only. The eggs contain valuable prizes like store coupons and game room tickets. The hunt takes place once the sun goes down, which makes it extra competitive!

In the south, Canyon Lake, Texas has a special flashlight hunt for older kids, plus crafts and pancakes. While you’re there, check out the progress on the new swimming pool (set to open this summer) and take a warm dip in the heated indoor pool.

Experience a German Easter Celebration in Frankenmuth, MI , dubbed “Michigan’s Little Bavaria.” Once a year in the area of Franconia Germany one will find many wells, trees, buildings and fountains richly decorated with colored Easter eggs, pine-branch garland and spring flowers. This tradition of decorating Easter Fountains in Germany is over 200 years old and many cities and villages in Franconia Germany still follow this tradition. Since Franconia is the area from which Frankenmuth’s early settlers originated, they mirror the Osterbrunnen tradition.

So clean out the RV, dust off your tent or book a cabin and head to Jellystone Park to celebrate Easter and welcome the warm weather!

Spring Into The 2001 Camping Season

Heard the birds singing again at last? Gotten a peek of a daffodil trying to poke its way through the soil? Enjoyed a brief tease of things soon to come on a warm March day? Spring is just about here, and with it, the 2011 camping season for all our Jellystone Park™ Campgrounds. While many of you have continued to camp with our year-round parks, we are so excited to welcome everyone back to our seasonal parks as well – and we have more Yogi Bear-style fun than ever in store for this season. Let’s take a look at how one park in each region is celebrating spring and its biggest holiday, Easter.

For a friendly dose of Southern hospitality, visit Yogi on the Lake in Pelahatchie, Mississippi , where you’ll find excellent fishing on the 95-acre Pelahatchie Lake plus miniature golf, Yogi Bear Water Town- a splash playground, a sandy beach with volleyball, and tennis courts – as well as fully-equipped campsites and lakefront cabins. Celebrate Everything Spring Weekend April 15-17, when kids can plant their own flower pot in the park’s activity center, and the whole family will enjoy nature hikes, dodge ball and crafts. And Easter Weekend (April 22-24) just might bring a visit from the Easter Bunny himself – he’ll want to check out the Easter egg coloring and hunt that will be going on.

In the wild, wild West, you’ll love the spectacular views of Jellystone Park in Larkspur, Colorado , located on a bluff in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Celebrate Earth Weekend (April 22-24) offers a wonderful opportunity to get back into the outdoors with plenty of hiking, biking, Frisbee golf, and pedal carts. Stay outside for geocaching, the fossil dig sandbox, playground, archery range and fishing pond. And since Larkspur Jellystone Park welcomes furry friends with their Bark Park, Rover doesn’t have to miss all the fun.

On the East Coast, check out Jellystone Park Campground at Tall Pines in Elmer, NJ , situated on 113 beautiful woodland acres in rural southwestern New Jersey. From a full size pool and outdoor movie theater, to basketball and volleyball courts, a playground, and a private lake fully stocked with fish, Yogi Bear provides plenty of fun things to keep his guests busy. The grounds also contain miles of walking and biking trails, a picnic pavilion, wifi access, and a lending library. Kids will love pretending to be pirates for Treasure Hunt Weekend (April 15-17), as they search for hidden booty to fill their treasure chests (we’re talking hundreds of dollars here- AARGH, me mateys!) Easter weekend is sure to be egg-cellent with the annual Egg Extravaganza.

In the friendly Midwest, Jellystone Park in Millbrook, IL (near Chicago) is ready to welcome guests in April with reduced rates all month. It’s Wake Up the Bears Weekend April 16-18 (buy one night, get the second free) so come ready to make lots of noise to rouse Yogi Bear, Boo Boo™ and Cindy Bear™ from hibernation. You’ll also love the family movie, Glitz & Glow Hayride, and camper talent show.

Campfire Safety

The Jellystone Park Campground franchise is a proud partner of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors.

We know how much fun a safe, responsibly-managed campfire can be – that’s why this recent blog post from Leave No Trace caught our eye.

For your next campfire, keep the following in mind:

• Ask about pertinent regulations and campfire management techniques.
• Restore the appearance of the fire site.
• Judge the wind, weather, location, and wood availability. Decide whether it’s safe and responsible to build a campfire.
• Where there are no fire rings or grates, bring a fire pan or set aside time to build a mound fire.
• Have a trowel or small shovel and a container for saturating the ashes with water.
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Don’t try to burn foil-lined packets, leftover food, or other garbage that would have to be removed later.
• Burn the wood completely to ash: Stop feeding the fire, and give yourself an hour or more to add all the unburned stick ends.
• Saturate the ash with water. Make sure it’s cool to the touch, and remove any trash.
• Scatter all the ashes widely with a small shovel or pot lid.

Log on to www.LNT.org to learn more about how you can Leave No Trace when you play outside.

Get Moving! Staying Active This Winter

Short, cold, snowy winter days make it tough to keep the family active and healthy! Add school closings to the mix, and cooped-up kids (and parents) start to long for the outside weather of the rest of the year. With spring still a long way off, it’s easy to resign yourself to being sluggish – but don’t despair! There are plenty of ways to burn off extra energy, keep the whole family active and even have a great time between now and Daylight Savings Time!

Lace up your skates! Ice skating is a perfect wintertime activity to get the family moving – and have lots of fun doing it. If no one knows how to ice skate, sign up for group lessons and learn something new together. Then there’s roller skating; what better way to revisit your youth than to take the kids to the roller rink? And they even have those awesome disco balls.

Let Rover lead the way. Your dog just may miss the outdoors more than anyone. And he doesn’t care if he gets snow in his coat. Romping with him outside in the snow will warm the kids up in no time and give them a great workout.

Just too dang cold to go outside? Plug into the Wii (or PlayStation, or Xbox.) There are plenty of games out there that will get you moving, but a family favorite is the Let’s Dance series. Great music, groovy moves and perfect for family night.

Don’t forget the old standbys! Sledding, skiing and snowshoeing are wonderful exercise and perfect for making great memories. Our new Jellystone Park in Madison, Maine , with its heated cabins, is a great home base to explore the area rich in winter activities including snowmobiling.

Get your swim on! Find an indoor water park at your YMCA or community center, or just swim laps. Jellystone Park Campgrounds in Frankenmuth, MI and Canyon Lake, TX have indoor swimming pools that create a wonderful wintertime destination.
