Jellystone Parks™ Receive Top Honors from Woodall’s

Woodall’s has awarded 15 Jellystone Park™ Campgrounds their coveted 5W/5W rating. This dual rating system is based on the development of the park’s facilities and its recreation. In general, the more W’s a campground is awarded, means the camper will find a more resort-like experience. Another vital consideration is a park’s overall maintenance. No matter the park’s amenities, a park can only receive 5W if it achieves a certain standard of up-keep and cleanliness.

The next time you are in the mood for camping in resort-like style, visit one of our parks who can proudly claim this honor! Those parks are: Amboy, IL; Fremont, IN; Lawrence, KS; Williamsport, MD; Frankenmuth, MI; Austin, MN; Pelahatchie, MS; Woodridge, NY; Gardiner, NY; North Hudson, NY; Aurora, OH; Mill Run, PA; Caledonia, WI; Wisconsin Dells, WI; Niagara Falls, ON.

Leave No Trace Visits Michigan Campground

lnt-fmuth

The Leave No Trace e-Tour visited the Jellystone Park campground in Frankenmuth, Michigan for “Family Reunion Weekend.” Frankenmuth, known as Little Bavaria, is an interesting community with a strong German heritage that was settled first as a Lutheran mission in the early 19th Century. The celebration of its Bavarian roots is the signature feature of the community today. Local school children still study German from kindergarten to high school, and the architectural styling, music, food, and beer all recall the traditions of German alpine culture.

Here is an excerpt from the Leave No Trace blog:

lnt-fmuth

Once again, it was a full and busy Jellystone that greeted us on Friday night as we arrived at our campsite in the farmlands of Eastern Michigan near Saginaw Bay. The campground was carefully groomed, with a network of paved roads that the kids (and adults) used to good advantage for their virtually nonstop cruising on bicycles and pedal-cars. We could hear squeals of laughter as spontaneous games of wheeled chase erupted on the child-friendly autobahn, and the “pursued” pedaled furiously to outpace their equally determined “pursuers.”

We’ve come to appreciate the appeal of Jellystone as a similarly safe and comfortable haven for young and old who seek to enjoy a sense of community with like-minded neighbors. It’s a place where all can take pause from the frenetic pace of urbanized and internetized lifestyles, and enjoy the outdoor leisure activities that kids and adults have timelessly appreciated when afforded the opportunity.

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and the Jellystone Park™ campground system have forged a partnership to reach hundreds of thousands of families with Leave No Trace education. The partnership is part of a comprehensive effort to teach outdoor skills and ethics, as well as help make the critical connection between people and the outdoors.

Kansas Gets it’s First Jellystone Park!

Wagon Rides at the Kansas City Jellystone Park

Located at 1473 Hwy 40 in Lawrence, Kansas, owners Ralph and Kim Newell are the first park owners from Kansas to join the Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park franchise system. When they bought the campground 10 years ago, they knew they had their work cut out for them. The park was in “tough shape,” but after investing $750,000 in improvements, the Newell’s have transformed their campground into a popular family friendly destination.

With 95 sites in all, Kansas City Jellystone is sure to please any type of camper with pull-thru sites, tenting sites, and a variety of amperes to accommodate any need.

Other amenities include internet access, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, a snack/dinner bar, and a convenience store for those precious Yogi Bear souvenirs or last minute camping necessities.  There are also meeting rooms, and pets are welcome, so even Fido can join in on the fun.

For all your family’s entertainment needs, one can take a dip in the pool, run on the playground, fish, enjoy live entertainment, bounce about on the jumping pillow, sing along to songs on a wagon ride, or compete in classic games like basketball or volleyball on the sports courts. Of course every family enjoys Jellystone Park’s signature themed weekends, which includes everything from ice cream socials to flashlight candy hunts, hayrides to outdoor movies. This year, in fact, the Newell’s have planned nearly 30 themed weekends, including a “Death by Chocolate” and “Murder Mystery” week, as well as a 1950′s week and a “Christmas in July” celebration with campsite decorating contests, and free admission to children under 16.

The park also operates a corn maze in the fall and this year will have its first pumpkin patch in advance of Halloween.

Nearby attractions include golfing, museums, lakes, parks and trails, not to mention the park is just 45 minutes west of downtown Kansas City.

“Anybody can provide a place to stay overnight,” Newell said, adding, “What we want to do is get that customer to want to come back again and again.”
